It began more than 21 years ago as a donated land where public worship was held for the surrounding community, with the purpose of becoming the second episcopal seat of the Prelature, since it only had Chetumal. The initiative for the construction of the Cathedral was in charge of Fr. Rafael Ruiz Padilla, LC, who, together with benefactors and the entire community, expanded the works.

Today it already has a new construction project that will house almost 2 thousand people in the Eucharistic celebration.

It has a board of trustees that is in charge of carrying out its own administrative and celebratory projects. Some of the collaborating apostolates are: Catechists, Liturgy Group, Worshipers, Divine Child Group, Legion of Mary, Christian Family Movement, Cursillos in Christianity, Exodus, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Apostleship of the Cross, Net, Altar Servers , Choirs, Mercy Group, Renewal in the Holy Spirit, among others.
